How to Get More Twitter Followers?

We always say that we need to Communicate with our customers when running a business today, since the whole world enters Social Media Era. And everything we do needs to be networked.

If you want a success in your business, you need to first make success in your related social media platform. Because now it is the time that customers take actions. All you need to do is to listen to them and communicate with them.

But how?

Twitter is the most important and popular platform to talk to your customers and fans directly. But if you have no followers, you have no one to talk to. So I will give you some tips on how to attract more twitter fans based on my own experiences.

1.  Start to follow people.

It seems easy, but you have to keep in mind that “people” here means those twitter user who might probably be interested in your products. You can not follow people blindly, you need to focus on twitter user who have the same interest as your business do.

For example, If you are running a fashion site for online shopping, you have to find people who love fashion while love online shopping. You can find them by searching keywords through twitter’s searching bar.

2. Talk to people who you are following.

Read their tweets and reply them friendly. You can give them compliment, answer their questions…you need to make them feel that you are a friend of them online. Care about their daily lives, give them best advice when they need help by “Mentioning” them or “Retweeting” them. Then they will begin to notice you, follow you back, and want to know you.

And trust me, twitter users love to follow people who talk to them, if you love communication, lots of people will find you and will start t0 follow you.

3. Unfollow people who don’t follow you back in time.

You need to unfollow people who don’t follow you back. Solely spend your times on people who deserve your time.

4. Tweet more High-quality Tweets.

Tweet information that are not “nonsense”. You followers would like to know what is going on with your business, what is the hottest trend in your feild, what is the story behind…they don’t want to know how many burgers you eat today and why you hate the girl who lives next door!

5. Follow your related industries and retweet useful information from them.

If you are a movie studio, you can retweet tweets from movie companies on new movie previews; if you are a restaurant manager, you can reweet tweets from healthy tips on “green recipe” etc. Make your twitter as a information source.

How to Attract More Traffic to your Blog?

Recently  I’ve been busy doing social media marketing for an online fashion community. Thus, for two months I haven’t updated anything here. However, with two months’  new online marketing  experiences, I have more to write about.

Today I would like to share some tips on blog promotion with you.

I always believe thatContent is the King, but I also want to say that If you want more traffic, you need to expose more about your blog. You have to make much noise to attract traffic.

First, make sure where do your traffic come from.  You can find something about your audience from the statistic part on your dashboard. You can see the area where most visitors come from, their traffic source etc.

Second, try to write some content to match the “Hot keyword” from the region where your audience from. For example, if you are writing fashion blog, when your audience are more from uk, you can focus on some UK fashion icons’ styles. If you are writing about entertainment,  when you audience are more  from India, you can sure focus on Bollywood, or india celebrities in Hollywood etc. I know this sounds subservient ? but it does help you earm more traffic from different areas of the world.

Third, Communication with other blogers! I have to say that this is the fastest way to earn your traffic. After your new blog article is published, go out to the world blogosphere to see what other bloggers write about. Leave messages to blogs which have the same topic as you.  Fashion to fashion, food to food, social media to social media…which gonna make more sense. The messages you leave should be high-quality, and then be sure to make your link to your blog in the end of your message, which can lead bloggers back to your own blog.

Fourth, try to use different social media sites to expose your blog address. Submit your link to release share sites like Digg,   share your new articles with fans on twitter and friends on facebook. Try to find some related online communities, make an account, and only share part of ideas and pictures from your blogs. Like Tumblr, you can always insert your blog link.

Last, try to use an attractive title for your blog articles.  Want your blog to be searched through Search engine? Try to think if you are the guy who is searching for information, what keywords you will type in the seaching bar? Try to use more words like “How to…” “What to…” “Top 10 must…” “You should…”, which gonna definitely help your blog rank higher on the result page.

Fashion and Social Media

Social media influences our lives with no doubt. Personally, I am a huge fashion fan so i am really interested to discover that how social media changes the fashion industry. It looks like every thing happens during one night that not matter big or small, a large number of fashion brands have their social media platforms.

Every time we gets into the fashion company’s website,we will easily find the facebook and twitter logo. If we join their fan page or follow them on twitter, we can be kept updating on their latest fashion new pieces or sales. Thus, social media platform firstly becomes a good way for fashion company to promote their business, especially for online shopping.

Today when I logged on facebook, i found that one of my favorite high street brands “Pull & Bear” will start their online shopping website from tomorrow. I cannot help share this news with my friends right away. If there is no social media, customers will probably receive the news from websites or retail shops, which is a  far more slow way.

“Sale” season is alway attractive to customers, and social media become the tool to “spread the word”. A lot of fashion companies change their profile picture into “sale” posters to anounce that their “sale” is on sail.  It turns out that, the more people are in their social media network, the more business they will earn eventually. The more followers they have, the more active will their activities be.

Social media also is a platform for mutual communication. Having a way to communicate with customers, let them take the action provides a perfect way for fashion company to get tied with their customers. From the communication on social media, fashion company could know whether their first autumn coat is liked, whether their new color has received nice opinion etc. from public.

Generaly speaking, social media is the best online promotion tool for fashion companies, it helps on their online shopping, sale and communication with customers.

Social Media Viral Marketing (Day 23)

In fact, Viral Marketing actually has a lot of names. You probably feel a bit strange with the phrase, but your must have heard one of its other terms, like “Word of mouth“, like “Buzz marketing”. Shortly, it is a social media marketing strategy. As the original “viral” meaning, the social media campaign is spread in a large number of people: be talked about, be shared, be concerned…be passed from one person to another one without paid media. And viral marketing will bring bigger promotion and make better profit.

It is said that E-mail is the basic strategy for viral marketing, since E-Mail encourages people to forward information. With the development of social media, we have more and more platform to do viral Marketings. Especially for Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. There are lots of forms for Viral Marketing: advergames, video clip, ebooks, interactive flash etc. And no matter in what way, the purpose is to GO VIRAL.

There are some discussions on the difference between Viral marketing and Social Marketing. Personally I think the former is more about “spread” and “profit”. Viral marketing increases traffic and attracts people through social media platforms, let netizens spread the word in order to promote a specific production or a brand while spends least money.

It is even not hard to discover that, when referring to viral marketing, not only big companies could win most profits, because of the low-paid features, a lot of small companies could also achieve success. It is universe acknowledged that money makes the world go round. The most important reason why people use Viral marketing is because it could make the biggest profit with lowest cost. And it really works!

How to do a successful viral marketing? Besides some vital elements that I have talked about on social media campaign in past articles, I do believe marketers should focus on the real value,  try to make the campaign creative, entertaining enough so that netizens would like to spread. Thus, the viral marketing is not only about a competition on social media sharing , but also about a competition on “brainstorm”.

5 Popular Personal Social Media Brands (Day 15)

Besides Gary Vaynerchuk, I need to figure out other four successful personal social media brands today. Again, I have to ask help from Google and Wikipedia. However, it doesn’t give me enough information this time. There is a large number of results on “how to” build a successful personal social media brands instead of a list about those “real successful” personal social media brands, it seems that most people are eager to create their own personal social media brands other than  talk about others’ success. Since this is a trend of social media’s development, taking the first chance is extremely important for everyone.

Thus, it makes sense that 90% of successful personal social media brands (as far as I have found),  are social media marketer or specialists, they are setting models themselves to help normal netizens become popular as they are. Plus, they are also sharing their professional knowledges with their fans.  The big popularity behind them also makes me believe that social media closely relates to business profits because no matter what the communication is about, “making money” is the main topic that everyone concerns.

Gary Vaynerchuk is the most popular one without any doubts, he even has his wikipedia page.He has more than 80 thousands followers on his twitter, and it is very easy to find his youtube video on social media as well. Maybe we can say he is the best person who can apply business to social media properly. He knows how to promote business by social media skill so that many people ask help from him and listen to his advice. Though his major firstly was not social media, social media is the platform makes him famous and more successful on his business: the wine.

Frank Eliason is another famous & popular personal social medial brand. He is also a businessman but mainly focus on how to give best customer service through social media. It is said that ” He was a man doing the right thing at the right time and he unwittingly became a celebrity in social media marketing circles for his accomplishments. “ His repute from the work he  did in comcastcares, and it didn’t get reduced even after when he quit his job.

Jonathan Fields , who is a famous blogger firstly, then starts his book marketing project. In fact his blog also have contents about his life and work, then how can he build a personal social media brand? Then obviously, the content is the king. Usable information is very important for the grow of personal brand. He is the author of book Career Renegade , giving advice to people on how to work what they really like, which exactly matches people’s need in today’s fast speed life.

There is another example that starts from blogging, a red head “bitch” Erika Napoletano , her kick-ass writing attract various of readers. Her contents are not specific about how to make use of  social media for business as Gary Vaynerchuk, but they have great sense of humor. People read her blogs for leisure more. However, her success in blogging still pushes herself into a social media specialist level, and helping her building up her personal social media brand.

And I really need to mention Jamie Oliver ! In China, there is an old saying that “Food is the god for people”, and probably this is the reason why  Jamie Oliver’s food revolution could bring him into one of the most popular personal social media brands. People want to eat healthy, people want their children to be healthy. His popularity online brings his business into reality, he owns some restaurants with huge profits (of course!) His personal social media makes him rich, makes us healthy. It creates benefits for both him and audience.

No matter what, from twitter, one of their biggest social media activity platform, we can clearly see  a common feature: they are interacting with their fans all the time! And this is a very vital element to help them stay popular and make themselves better.

After seeing their success, I cannot help ask is it possible that a normal person could also be famous, successful, popular as them through social media platform? Probably not. As far as I have discovered, most of them have a prerequisite: they are already successful enough in their own field before the social media brands’ set up.People adore them because they want to be similar as them.

I cannot adore a person if he is nothing, and he has to have “something” the deserve my worship. He can be good at writing(like Erika Napoletano), can be good at running business(Like Gary Vaynerchuk), good at cooking(Jamie Oliver) etc. And that is the basis of the their popularity online. Social media is not a place for them to start their career, it is a place for them to promote, to advertise, to make them more successful.

Thus, if you want to own a popular personal social media brand, firstly discover the real value of yourself!

The ROI of Social Media (Day 9)

Let me start with a joke:

Two mice were talking. One really wanted a girl friend, so he asked the other one: ” heya, maybe you can introduce me a nice single female that you know?” The other one took out a picture from the pocket, saying: “I do know one! here it is, how about this girl? ” He looked at the picture and got angry: “What do you mean? She is a bat! ” His friend said: “Oh come on dude, she is an air hostess.”

When I was a kid, I believed that bat is a mouse with wings, since they have the same face. But is mouse with wings bat? Biologists point out that in fact bat is bat, mouse is mouse, they are completely two different species. And today  my assignment is on the ROI (Return of Investment)of social media,  and I have spent a whole morning doing useless research on data analysis and ROI softwares until Mr.D threw me a similar question: “Is social media campaign social media? “I was speechless. I realized that I made the old mistake as I made on the mouse and bat thing.

Social Media and Social Media Campaign is not equal to each other. Social Media is for people to share online whilst Social Media Campaign is for people to do online promotion for specific productions. The former is long-term activities and a direct dialogue happens every second, but the latter is only a short-term advertisement with social media as its platform, happens in specific period.

Gary Vaynerchuk used a hilarious metaphor when received question as “how to measure the ROI of social media”. He fiercely claimed that all those datas on business we obtained could not measure the ROI of social media, and the real financial value lies on the relationship with consumer/customers. In other words, the ROI of social media campaign is about money and profits, the ROI of social media is about conversations.

It is indicated that “The problem with trying to determine ROI for social media is you are trying to put numeric quantitifes around human interactions and conversations, which are not quantifiable.” And the truth is it is not easy to measure the ROI of social media, even if a production’s advertisement  received million of “like” through facebook page. People who click “like” don’t need to purchase the production, so the “like” only hints the influence that imposed by  social media. And for those profits that company really makes are from people who buy this production for sure.

It sounds very abstract. Comparably speaking, what the ROI of social media campaign always report are brand exposures, traffic (comments on contents),  cost of sale, time to sale etc. but the ROI of social media concerns are the real increase in sale and quality of relationships. (more information please see here). However, for both of them, the ROI is not easy to calculate. It needs huge work to do, even not easier than a rocket surgery.

During the lunch, we watched another speech by Gary Vaynerchuk, who talked about how necessary for business to adapt to social media. Afterwards, I was surrounded by curiosities as “How about China?”.  Unfortunately, as a Chinese citizen who grows up inside the Great Fire Wall, I have no idea on the related development of social media business either. Probably China will make use of their own internet wonderland and continually loosing their connection with the whole world.

Knowing that I am discovering the social media world recently, my friends on my Chinese twitter (which is a product made in China) complain that global social media sites abandon China, because they ignore the power of 42 million Chinese netizens. But the fact is that it is China who abandon the globe first.Predicting the future of social media development in China, I am afraid that is even more complicated than ROI. God Bless.
